At MMCCU, we’re committed to providing secure and convenient banking solutions for our members. Beginning May 1, 2025, important changes are coming to Shared Branching, specifically regarding identity verification for withdrawal transactions involving out-of-state IDs.
Introducing IDCheck for Enhanced Security
To further enhance fraud prevention measures, Shared Branching will implement IDCheck, a verification system designed to prevent account takeover fraud—especially in cases involving out-of-state IDs. With this change, all Shared Branch clients will be required to use IDCheck for withdrawal transactions that involve an out-of-state ID.
What is IDCheck?
IDCheck is a digital verification tool that allows members to securely validate their identity when performing transactions at a Shared Branch location. This system provides an extra layer of security by ensuring that members are accurately identified before a withdrawal is processed.
How IDCheck Works
- A visiting member will scan a QR code with a smart device to initiate the IDCheck verification process.
- The system will authenticate the member’s identity and provide validation for the transaction.
- Members can choose to store their verification for future use, which allows for faster authentication on subsequent visits using the same device.
Key Benefits of IDCheck
- Enhanced Security: Reduces the risk of fraudulent transactions, particularly for accounts associated with out-of-state IDs.
- Faster Transactions: Stored validations allow for a seamless experience on repeat visits.
- Flexibility: Acquiring credit unions can use IDCheck for any transaction type, including their own internal verifications.
Additional Considerations for Members
- If a member opts in to store their validation, future verifications on the same device will be quicker and cost less.
- If a member gets a new smart device, they must go through the verification process again.
- If a member’s ID expires, they will need to re-verify their identity with IDCheck.
- Military IDs cannot be used with IDCheck due to federal regulations prohibiting the photocopying of military identification.
Next Steps for Members As we transition to the new IDCheck system, we encourage members to be prepared by ensuring they have a valid ID and a smart device capable of scanning QR codes. These changes are being implemented to enhance security, streamline the transaction process, and provide a safer banking experience for all members.
