Welcome to episode four of the “CU At The Top” podcast! In this episode, MMCCU President David Murphy had the pleasure of speaking with Nanci Wilson, the Vice President of Member Solutions at the Louisiana Credit Union League. Nanci’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of empathy in leadership. Here’s a glimpse into her story and the valuable lessons she shared.
Nanci’s entry into the credit union world was a stroke of serendipity. Coming from a background in Top 40 radio, she found herself in a tough spot, both medically and financially, just as Christmas was approaching. A visit to her bank for a small loan ended in disappointment and a harsh remark about her future prospects. Feeling the sting of financial shame, she withdrew her funds and sought out a credit union, a place she knew little about at the time.
The contrast was immediate. Nanci was met with empathy and understanding, not judgment. This experience was transformative. “I wanted to be that person,” she recalls, “the one who shows kindness and empathy.” This desire led her to apply for a teller position at the credit union, marking the beginning of her career in the financial sector.
