On Tuesday, January 28, representatives from MMCCU attended the Wisconsin Credit Union League’s State Government Affairs Conference (GAC) in Madison. This annual event brings credit unions together to advocate for key issues and ensure their voices are heard by state legislators.
MMCCU President David Murphy and Accountant & HR Specialist Stephanie Rasmussen represented the credit union at the event, where they met with legislators and connected with other credit union professionals from across Wisconsin.
“Being able to meet with members of the legislature is an important way for our voice to be heard,” said Rasmussen. “It creates a partnership that we can use to advocate for issues that are in the best interest of our members and the community.”
During their meetings, MMCCU representatives spoke with State Senator Cory Tomczak as well as Representative John Spiros.
“We had discussions about possible legislation regarding Interchange Income and thanked legislators for their support for the financial literacy bill and the elder abuse bill passed last session, among other topics,” said Murphy. “Having these discussions directly with lawmakers allows us to highlight the needs of our members and the role credit unions play in the financial well-being of our communities.”
Rasmussen added that attending GAC was a valuable experience. “In addition to meeting with lawmakers, I had the opportunity to connect with other credit union professionals from all over the state,” she shared. “It was amazing to see so many of us coming together to promote topics that matter to our members.”
MMCCU remains committed to advocacy efforts that support the credit union movement and ensure a strong financial future for its members.
