This summer, we were excited to welcome Alex Ponshock back for a summer internship. Alex previously worked at MMCCU as a Member Services Representative and is currently attending UWSP, double-majoring in Business Management and Finance.
In the last three months, Alex helped in various areas and learned from the management team. He was an integral part in the rollout of the Tyfone online banking, training staff and working with members to answer any questions that arose during the launch.
He worked with David Murphy to learn about third party vendors, gathering and updating their information and contracts for internal purposes. From Carol Kulibert, he learned about the processing of ACHs and wire transfers, along with how to open up a membership. Lastly, he worked with Jerry Litwaitis to learn about the loan process- what to look for in a credit report, what needs to be filled out in the loan application and subsequent paperwork and what the process looks like when the credit union declines an application.
“My favorite part of my job is the people. Both the members and my co-workers,” he said. “There are many members I can say that we had meaningful conversations during the short time we spent with each other during their transactions. And as for my co-workers, I can say that I have another family.”
Alex recommends working at a credit union for two reasons:
“The first would be to see what the difference is between credit unions and banks. I know now that I will definitely prefer to work with credit unions over banks knowing what I know now,” he said. “Secondly, I would suggest working at credit unions will give you a different perspective from a financial standpoint on things you should and should not do.”
As he heads back to college for the 2023-2024 school year, Alex is excited to see where his future takes him – and maybe it leads back to MMCCU.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at the credit union, and I hope the staff doesn’t miss me too much when I leave!” he said.
Thanks for your hard work, Alex! Best wishes at UWSP!
