Hey everybody, welcome to “The Credit You Deserve” podcast. I’m your host, David Murphy, President at the Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union, and in today’s episode we’re going to highlight what a credit union is, the history of credit unions in the United States, and the history of MMCCU.
If you’ve heard the term “credit union” but are unsure what it means or what they do, this is the podcast for you.
Credit unions are different from banks in several ways:
- Credit Unions are not-for-profit institutions.
- Credit Unions make decisions based on how they can benefit their member-owners instead of shareholders. Profits go back to the member.
- Credit Unions are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by their members.
- Credit Unions are regulated by a federal agency called the NCUA.
- Credit Unions typically use money from deposits to make loans to members only.
Whether you’re an MMCCU member or are simply interested in learning more about the Credit Union Difference, you’re in the right place! Tune in to learn more about credit unions.
