At MMCCU, we believe in fostering professional growth and community engagement among our team. We are excited to share the recent experience of our Accountant and HR Specialist, Stephanie Rasmussen, who attended The League Convention through the Young Professionals network.
Stephanie had the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend this event, formally known as HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Engage). This program is designed to empower young professionals within the credit union industry, providing them with invaluable networking opportunities and professional development.
During the convention, Stephanie connected with 18 peers from credit unions across Wisconsin, spanning various roles within the industry. Together, they participated in numerous general sessions available to all attendees, as well as exclusive breakout sessions tailored specifically for HYPE participants.
One of the highlights of Stephanie’s experience was a small group discussion with the retiring Credit Union League President, Brett Thompson. He shared his insights on leadership and reflected on the evolution of the credit union industry during his tenure. This intimate setting allowed HYPE participants to engage directly with a seasoned leader and gain wisdom that will undoubtedly shape their professional journeys.
In addition to the leadership insights from Thompson, Stephanie and her peers engaged in small group discussions with other leaders in the credit union movement. These sessions, coupled with talks from motivational speakers, emphasized financial wellness and the importance of creating a meaningful impact for credit union members. The knowledge and inspiration gained from these discussions are sure to benefit both Stephanie and MMCCU as a whole.
The convention also provided an avenue for community service, aligning perfectly with the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Stephanie and her HYPE group members participated in the Credit Unions United in Service project, where credit unions donated food and assembled snack packs for the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse. This initiative supports the nutritional needs of summer students, demonstrating the tangible impact credit union professionals can make in their communities.
Reflecting on her experience, Stephanie’s main takeaway from the convention is the strong connections she formed with a group of dedicated and passionate young professionals. These new relationships have already become a valuable resource for mutual support and collaboration.
Her participation in The League Convention through the HYPE program exemplifies MMCCU’s commitment to professional development and community service. We are proud of Stephanie’s achievements and look forward to seeing how her new insights and connections will enhance her role at MMCCU and benefit our members.
