Scam Awareness Alert

scam alert

Scammers are on the rise here in Central Wisconsin and worldwide. Scammers have the ability to call from a phone number that LOOKS like it’s coming from MMCCU, but in reality it is not.

Your security is our priority, which is why we wanted to share these points to help you protect your personal information:

  • If you are not expecting a call from the credit union, be cautious.
  • If someone reaches out to you claiming to be from MMCCU and you are not sure it’s legit, hang up and call the credit union back during business hours to speak directly with a team member at 715-387-8686.
  • MMCCU will not call you about transactions. This is done through a third party and you will get a case number.

Here’s how a scam will typically work (more details HERE):

  • You will receive a phone call, text message, or email from someone claiming to be from the credit union (or sheriff’s office, social security, etc). They often claim to be checking on a fraudulent purchase or transaction, or accusing you of wrongdoing.
  • They will then ask to verify some of your personal information. Once they have this information, they will use it to access your personal accounts (like checking or savings).
  • Never give personal information to someone over the phone. When in doubt, hang up and call MMCCU back at 715-387-8686.

WHEN IN DOUBT, HANG UP AND CALL US BACK!
