Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union (MMCCU) sponsored a $1000 scholarships that was recently awarded to Kimberly vanDoorn, a nursing student through the UWEC nursing program in Marshfield.

“We want to help make it easier for students to get the training they need to serve in our healthcare facilities,” said MMCCU President David Murphy. “The need for healthcare is not going away and there is a bigger need than ever of getting people educated to fill these positions. The commitment to help these students will help our communities maintain quality healthcare for decades to come.”

MMCCU has also partnered with the UWEC Nursing Program to serve as a resource for students and their financial questions and needs.

“We want to serve as a local trusted source for students who have questions about anything finances- whether it be budgeting, student loans, car loans, opening a checking account, or anything related,” said Murphy.

“What inspired me to go into nursing was the Certified Nursing Assistant program I took in high school,” said vanDoorn. “I was planning on going into medical imaging, but I really enjoyed the focus on patient care that you did as a nurse. That is one of my favorite things about nursing is how much we are there for our patients.”

She added that she is also fascinated by the science of nursing.  “I think the medical field is very interesting and there is so much to learn,” she said.

In her free time, vanDoorn serves as a member of the Eau Claire’s Student Nursing Association. She expects to graduate in December 2024.

MMCCU is not affiliated with any specific healthcare facility and serves members in all healthcare fields and across multiple employers. To learn more about MMCCU student aid resources, visit this page.
