Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union member Carol Masanz was the lucky winner of the most recent Saver’s Sweepstakes drawing, receiving $100.

Saver’s Sweepstakes® is The Wisconsin Credit Union League’s statewide prize-linked savings program, designed to help individual credit union members save while giving them chances to win statewide cash prize drawings.

“It made my day,” said Masanz. “I was thrilled. It was such a nice surprise.”

Masanz has been a member of the credit union for about 40 years, and created a Saver’s Sweepstakes account in 2018 after learning about the program.

“MMCCU had some advertising in the lobby one day when I went in to do some transactions,” she said. “I thought…why don’t I do that? That way I can save and at the end of the year I have a good amount of money. Then, if I needed something, the money was there. If I didn’t need anything, I just let it go until the next year.”

Already an avid saver, Masanz created a Saver’s Sweepstakes account as a fun way to build up her savings.

“I honestly didn’t think I’d ever win,” she said. “But I thought, oh well, even if I don’t at least at the end of the year I have some money saved.”

She encourages everyone to sign up because it helps motivate to save money and provides a fun opportunity to potentially win a prize.

“I think it’s a really nice program. I believe in savings,” she said. “I have multiple accounts that I earmark for different things, like my car, vacation, and the Christmas Club. I’ve done that for years and it works for me.”

Masanz plans to use her prize money to support a favorite local business, Rae Baxter’s Fashions in downtown Marshfield.

“I really like Carol’s store and I wanted to buy local,” she said. “This way, I can treat myself to something and support a local business in my community in the process.”
